President – Dr. Jacqueline Lui
Dr. Jacqueline Lui is the founding president of HIPP. She is a US Registered Patent Agent with B.Sc. in Agricultural Science and Bronze Tablet Scholar from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Lui has research experience in molecular and cell biology, bioelectronics and biochemical engineering for many years before entering the patent practice.

Dr. Lui has been practicing in the patent field for more than 20 years, and is President of Eagle IP Group. Jackie founded the firm in 2005 after several years in the management teams of two large firms. Besides her own biotechnology specialization, Dr. Lui also has considerable patent experience in the areas of material science, internet of things (IoT), consumer electronics, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing. She is involved in advising clients on patent-related matters including strategic planning, rights procurement, portfolio management, technology transfer, due diligence and enforcement worldwide.

Jackie has been recognized as one of the World’s Leading Patent Firms & Individuals by Intellectual Asset Management (2015 to 2017). She has also been recognized as one of the Top 250 Women in IP (2018/2019) by IP Stars of Managing IP. She is currently a member of the Working Group under the Advisory Committee on Review of the Patent System in Hong Kong, Commerce and Economic Development, the Government of Hong Kong SAR. She is also IP Advisor to the HK Bio-Med Innotech Association (HKBMIA), the Hong Kong Electronics & Technologies Association (HKETA), and the Hong Kong Medical and Heallthcare Device Industries Association (HKMHDIA).

She is former member of the Board of Directors of the Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI) (2004 - 2010), Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (NAMI) (2006 - 2010) and the Health and Medical Development Advisory Committee (2005-2011).

Vice-President – Dr. Kam Law
Dr. Kam Law, a US patent lawyer and Hong Kong solicitor, advises a variety of clients including Fortune 500 clients, start-up companies and individual inventors, including a Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, on intellectual property (IP) matters. He assists clients in applying for and prosecuting trademark and patent applications worldwide in the fields of renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemicals, electronics, mechanics, printing and technology. He frequently engages in patent due diligence and provides patentability opinions, freedom-to-operate opinions, noninfringement opinions, invalidity or validity opinions, and license agreements. He also advises clients on enforcement of patent rights and other IP matters.

Prior to his career in law he worked at Global 500 companies, including 3M and Samsung Electronics, focusing on both research and development and intellectual property works. He received his US patent agent license in 1999, and his J.D. and US patent attorney license in 2003. As an inventor himself, Kam has obtained more than 200 patents worldwide.

Kam is a member of the American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, Asian Patent Attorneys Association and Hong Kong Institute of Patent Practitioners.

Treasurer – Mr. Taiky Ong
Mr. Taiky Ong obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry in Canada, LL.B. in U.K. and LL.M. in China. Taiky practiced as a trademark and patent attorney in China Trademark & Patent Law Office in China. He founded TrademarkCN Co. Ltd. (HK) in 2003 and is currently the director and senior trademark and patent attorney of the company. He has served clients such as ICBC, China Tobacco, BYD, Want Want Group, Wahaha, BBMG and Real Madrid on intellectual property matters.

Council Member – Mr. Kenneth Choy
Kenneth Choy is head of Technology Transactions practice of Nixon Peabody CWL in Hong Kong. His practice spanning more than 30 years in the U.S. and Asia has evolved into a combination of traditional IP, technology, transactional and emerging company practices. He is a strategic advisor to innovative clients in matters such as pre-IPO capital raising, portfolio building, IP commercialization, technology transfer, brand building, licensing, cross-border strategic alliances, and mergers and acquisitions. Kenneth also assists clients navigate the developing regulatory environment of crypto-currencies, blockchains, ICOs, IEOs, and STOs.

He is admitted to practice law in New York, California (inactive) and Hong Kong and is a regular speaker at international conferences and seminars.

Council Member – Dr. Lou Hong
Dr. Lou Hong is a Senior Partner of Sincere Partners & Attorneys in Shenzhen. Specialized in IP law, Dr. Lou holds the degree of Doctor of Juridical Science (JSD) from City University of Hong Kong, and is a Senior Research Associate in the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong. Before doctorate, he conducted research and study in University College Dublin in Ireland and Emory University in the US. Further, Dr. Lou practices as a Mediator of Shenzhen Nanshan People’s Court, the General Secretory of Belt and Road International Lawyers Union Limited, the Council Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Patent Practitioners Limited, the Chinese Legal Consultant of Hong Kong General Chamber of Cross-border E-commerce, and the Council Member of Belt and Road International Committee of Shenzhen Lawyers Association. Dr. Lou is the first lawyer qualified as the High-Level Oversea Talent, Peacock Plan Fellow by the Shenzhen Government.

Council Member – Mr. Henry Wheare
Mr. Henry Wheare is a partner in the intellectual property group of Nixon Peabody CWL and has practiced intellectual property law for many years as a solicitor/patent attorney in the UK and solicitor in Hong Kong. He previously held leading positions with local and international law firms in London and Hong Kong. He is Vice-President and Treasurer of the Hong Kong Group of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA); a member of the Law Society’s committee on competition law and numerous other professional associations, including INTA, HK Institute of Trade Mark Practitioners and Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group. He is widely recognized as a leading IP practitioner in various legal directories, including Chambers, Legal 500, Asia IP, Managing IP, Who’s Who Legal and IAM Patent 1000. He received the APAA’s Enduring Impact Award in 2018.

Henry advises international companies on Asia regional and global IP strategies and disputes, including complex technical patent and copyright cases. His practice covers all areas of intellectual property, including contentious and non-contentious matters relating to trade marks, copyright, patents and designs, confidential information and technology transfer. He also advises on competition law, intellectual property rights management, entertainment, media and licensing.

Mr. Henry Wheare heads the Asia intellectual property group of Lovells. His practice covers all areas of intellectual property, including contentious and non-contentious matters relating to trade marks, copyright, patents and designs, confidential information and technology transfer. He also advises on competition law, intellectual property rights management, entertainment and licensing. Henry has practiced intellectual property law for some 30 years. He is a Council Member, Treasurer and Hon Secretary (past President) of the Hong Kong Group of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association; a member of the Law Society’s committees on intellectual property and competition law and belongs to numerous professional associations including the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI); the International Trademark Association (INTA), the UK Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys; the HK Institute of Trade Mark Practitioners the UK Anti-Counterfeiting Group, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group.

His publications include co-authoring the Copyright section of Halsbury's Laws of Hong Kong; Hong Kong Editor of Managing Intellectual Property; Contributor Asian IP; Author Intellectual Property Protection in Asia: Practical Strategies (Asia Law & Practice); Hong Kong Patent Law (Hong Kong University Press); and Building & Enforcing IP Value: Hong Kong and China (Globe White Page). He advises international companies on Asia regional and global brand management; is engaged in complex technical patent and copyright cases; and handles cross border IP disputes. He is regularly consulted on behalf of film, music recording, broadcasting and computer industry groups in relation to developing intellectual property issues, especially in relation to copyright and the digital agenda. He was appointed an expert witness by the US court in relation to Chinese copyright law and is a visiting lecturer for the Harvard Law and Business Schools. He is widely recognised as an outstanding practitioner and is named as a leading lawyer in legal directories, including Chambers Global, Asia Pacific Legal 500, PLC Which Lawyer?, AsiaLaw & Practice and International Who's Who of Business Lawyers.
